This is my first devlog, how exciting!
For the last few days I’ve been working on our brand new Neocities site. It’s actually been incredibly fun. I’ve been browsing other people’s sites, dusting off my HTML/CSS skills, and generally just remembering the wonder I felt when I was younger during the days of the early internet. I did have a whole Squarespace site built, but something felt off about it. Making a Neocities site feels more like home.
Medstrat has been something we’ve been working on and off for the past… year or so? It’s hard to give a concrete number because there have been periods of high development and periods when we’ve been too busy with work, school, or just life in general. Lately we’ve gotten a little more serious with it. At first it really was just an excuse to work on something together. Noah and I have been friends since 2018 or so. That’s 7 years at this point! We met on Tumblr I think, connected over fanart, and we both just happened to eventually take great interest in programming and gamedev independently. We thought, let’s take all of our favorite things and make something just for the sake of making it. Something that was special to us, and didn’t need to make a billion dollars or please a board of investors or maximize profits with what’s the hottest trend or whatever.
So yes, it’s been a labor of love. We’re taking our time for the sake of this project becoming a game we’re proud of. This has only been possible with both of us having (professionally related) day jobs. But ever since the industry’s been all out of whack, we’ve found ourselves with more time on our hands than usual. In a similar way, devlogging is going to be a way to document our development and keep us motivated.
A little bit about me: I’m 1/2 of the founders of this beloved Haunting Machine. I’m a tech artist by day and more of a generalist by night. Aside from that I love my 2 cats, drawing, history, reading, and my long-term partner. I’ll probably post about interesting technical problems I come across, alongside casual chatter like this.
I do hope you continue to keep up with the development of Medstrat. It would mean the world to me!
Terry
